Emergency support for families

Emergency support for families

Huntington National Bank is providing emergency financial assistance to families of pediatric patients with life-threatening diseases or mental health challenges being treated at the M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital.

Addressing the unexpected: Unanticipated health care challenges are difficult for families–emotionally, mentally, and financially. In many cases, a parent may need to take unpaid leave from work to care for their child, ultimately exhausting their financial resources. The Huntington National Bank Emergency Assistance Fund provides adaptable support to families facing various urgent needs, such as rent/mortgage assistance, unexpected car repairs, transportation for medical appointments, essential medical supplies, and assistance with groceries or gas.

“Providing flexible assistance to the families we serve at Masonic Children’s Hospital ensures that families can put their energy where it is most needed: into the care and healing of their child. This collaboration with Huntington National Bank gives us one more way to care for these families at a critical time in their lives.”

Commitment to community: The Huntington National Bank, which has more than 60 branches and 1,400 employees in Minnesota, has a strong commitment to community involvement and supportive civic leadership. This investment builds on the long-standing support that Huntington and its predecessor institutions have provided to the hospital and the University throughout the years.

“At Huntington, we’re committed to making a difference where we live and work, and one way we do that is by investing in local nonprofit and charitable organizations to build healthy and vibrant communities. We are proud to support this program because it provides critical assistance to families in their time of need.”

Impact on families: More than 160 families have received assistance totaling nearly $130,000 since the fund's inception in October 2021. Some of the many patients and families impacted by this support include:

  • A 4-year-old patient diagnosed with neuroblastoma has been hospitalized and will undergo two autologous transplants. The patient’s parents were experiencing hardship due to the demands of the treatment, and $1,094 in rent assistance was provided.
  • A 10-year-old female patient, who underwent a liver transplant in 2015, was recently hospitalized due to transplant rejection. The patient’s family was struggling with bills and received $1,500 for rent assistance.
  • An 18-month-old patient diagnosed with Hurler Syndrome required a second transplant after a graft failure. Due to an extended hospital stay, the patient’s family faced outstanding bills and lost wages, and received $570 in assistance.
